Testing Day at Newbury Ahead

A couple of bets stand out at Newbury on a quieter day and although there is Grade 1 action on offer the best bets may lie elsewhere on the card.

Moore’s can strike a tune with Dell

Dell Oro is one of just two previous hurdle winners lining up in the Introductory Hurdle at 12.40 but he can make it two from two over flights for Gary and Josh Moore. The four-year-old does have to give weight away to all bar First Flow but looked a nice sort when opening his account and can be expected to improve further for that experience.

Connections opted to let him take his chance in the Champion Bumper at Punchestown last season…

..and although he never landed a blow on that occasion he can shape into a much better horse as he gets older and now over hurdles he could be one that wins plenty of races and should land the spoils in this two-miler.

Heskin to continue his fine run

Tom George and Adrian Heskin nearly landed a big surprise on Tuesday as Double Shuffle rallied late and got to within a length of Might Bite. They’ve enjoyed a fine partnership in the 14-months since the association began and another Saturday winner can come their way courtesy of Wuff in the Mandarin Handicap Chase at 2.25.

Wuff ran to a fine level last season and returned to action just over a couple of weeks ago at Bangor..

…when finishing second in what was a good run but one which he should strip fitter for.

The conditions at Newbury are sure to be fairly testing and the extra step up in trip should further play to his strengths and in what is a fairly compact handicap I’d expect Wuff to come out on the right side for the in form team.

Suggested bets*:
Dell Oro (4/1) – 12:40 Newbury
Wuff (6/1) – 2:25 Newbury
