The Draw For The BoyleSports Champion Stakes Has Been Made

The draw for the 2021 BoyleSports Champion Stakes – with €20,000 up for grabs – has been made and the sponsors have made Ballymac Fairone their ante-post favourite.

Trained by Liam Dowling, Ballmyac Fairone impressed the greyhound industry when making the final of the English Greyhound Derby earlier this month having produced some outstanding clocks around the Towcester circuit.

Ballymac Scala, son of Ballymac Matt, has been made the 5/1 favourite to win the big prize with his trainer successful in this race with Ballymac Arminta in 2019 and Ballymac Vic in 2014.

Last week’s Shelbourne €7,500 Champion 550 winner Deadly Destroyer is the 6/1 second favourite and a major contender to add another title to his CV for trainer Karol Ramsbottom. The son of Droopys Jet, Cruel Intentions can motor from the boxes with eight wins from 21 starts so far.

We are proud to be sponsoring the BoyleSports Champion Stakes for the next three years with 18 talented greyhounds chasing the €20,000 prize.

Next in the betting with BoyleSports is Broadstrand Ryan at 8/1 for trainer John A. Linehan. This speedster has some flashy clocks over the 525 yards and with just one run over the further trip of 550, there is more to come from him.

The 2020 Juvenile Derby and 2021 Select Stakes winner Skywalker Barry is also 8/1 for young trainer Mark O’Donovan, who has been enjoying a purple patch lately. Last year’s runner-up Ballymac Wild is 10/1 alongside his kennelmate Great Name That and Graham Holland’s Romeo Magico.

The outstanding Beach Avenue for trainer Paul Hennessy is 16/1 and is sure to be a major player with his powerful pace and stamina. He is one of the most consistent greyhounds in training with his kennelmate and recent Corn Cuchulainn winner Priceless Jet also 16/1.

Three semi-finals will take place this Saturday at Shelbourne Park with the first two to qualify from each heat to make up the final on July 31st.
