Tottenham v Man City Preview

Tottenham’s Form

Tottenham have recovered from a poor period in recent weeks with only one defeat from their last seven games in all competitions. This form has brought them to fifth place three points behind second-placed Man City. Tottenham have also won 12 of their last 13 home matches in the FA Cup since losing to Crystal Palace 1-0.

Last time out they faced the red half of Manchester where they played out a 2-2 draw at Old Trafford. However, Tottenham did have the better of things with 16 shots and an XG of 1.23 to United’s 9 shots and an XG of 0.75 along with having 64% of possession.

Tottenham are unbeaten in their last two games against Man City and will come into this game full of confidence into what will be considered somewhat of a “free hit” with all the pressure on City.

Man City’s Form

Man City look well and truly back on the horse following a slow start to their season they have now won six of their last six games in all competitions putting them up to second place in the league. Remarkably, City have lost all five of their away games at Tottenham Hotspur stadium against Spurs failing to score despite having 84 shots with 22 on target without finding a goal.

Man City’s last time out showed the resilience of “Champions”, Silva opened the scoring in the 26th minute before Newcastle hit quickly with Isak scoring in the 35th minute and Gordon in the 37th minute to take a 2-1 lead. Late goals from De Bruyne in the 74th minute and Bobb in the 91st minute earned them a dramatic 2-3 victory. It was deserved though with 73% of possession and 27 shots cumulating an XG of 3.0 to Newcastle 12 and XG of 1.30.

Man City are the defending champions in this competition following their 2-1 victory over Man United last year.  They could make it 22 FA Cup matches unbeaten not played at Wembley with a victory.

Key Players To Watch

Destiny Udogie- Tottenham

The Tottenham Left-Back has been one of the revelations of the season for his performances the Italian is fastly becoming one of the most highly thought of players at the club in his seminal season.

The Italian International is a throwback left back who is consistently getting forward and taking on defenders, demonstrated by his 2.53 Attacking Penalty Touches Per 90, 1.51 Successful Take On’s and 3.15 Progressive Carries which are in the 88th, 89th and 90th percentile respectively.

Udogie is also a strong defender though, with great defensive awareness to read the play and make interceptions and has great recovery pace in the tackle too.

Phil Foden -Man City

The Manchester maestro enjoys this competition having been involved in 16 goals from 14 starts for the club (11 goals, 5 assists). In their 5-0 victory against Huddersfield in the third round he scored twice.

Foden is also tremendously versatile playing across all four positions in the front four this season making him a key cog in the Guardiola side. This season he has 11 goals and 8 assists in 31 matches in all competitions already.

Tottenham v Man City Prediction & Best Bet

Prediction: Tottenham 1-2 Man City

Tottenham have been expertly managed by Ange this season, making them a dangerous and well-coached side no matter how many players they’d missing through injury or suspension.

Man City’s comeback victory over Newcastle in their last league games, typified the performance of a side who knows how to win big games and trophies. They should have enough to win here even if Haaland doesn’t turn out to be fit.

This is a potential banana skin for City, but I do suspect they get through it and book their place in the next round.

Best Bet:  Man City  Win + Over 2.5 Goals 6/5
