The Dutchman is already a five-time winner of the event and was back on winning form earlier this year when beating Price in the decider of the World Matchplay to win the title for a third time.
We are offering top price on all players in the outright betting and rate the three-time PDC World Champion a 7/1 shot despite being handed a tricky opener against Gary Anderson, meaning he is now the stand-alone second favourite ahead of Peter Wright, who has been eased to 8/1 from 7/1.
World Number One Gerwyn Price remains the 4/1 favourite to win the tournament for a second time, while Jonny Clayton is an 11/1 shot to defend his title having beaten his compatriot in last year’s final to land his first televised ranking victory.
Clayton is odds-on at 4/6 to get the better his first round match against Dirk van Duijvenbode on Monday, while Michael van Gerwen (4/9) and Peter Wright (3/10) are also being well backed to come through first round matches on the opening night against Gary Anderson and Kim Huybrechts respectively.
