That’s the view of BoyleSports football ambassador Natalie Sawyer, who has previewed the Hammers against Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of their Europa League semi-final on Thursday.

The sports broadcaster reckons a move to Old Trafford would actually represent a step down for the coveted England midfielder.

“Right now, West Ham are ahead of Manchester United,” she told BoyleSports.

“There will be a big rebuild there under Erik Ten Hag and who knows, they could be back in the top four next season after a big revolution. But I think it’s still going to take a bit of time.

“At this moment in time, West Ham are a more solid and exciting team to play for and they are unified; you don’t see that at Manchester United.

“So it wouldn’t make sense for Declan Rice to go there right now, it wouldn’t be the right fit. We know money talks, but he’s in a better place right now.”

Sawyer also said the lure of Champions League football at West Ham next season may also be in their favour in an expected battle to hold on to Rice this summer.

She added: “It makes sense that David Moyes rested some key players against Chelsea. I watched them when they came to Brentford in between the two legs of the Lyon tie and they looked quite tired and jaded.

“But for them to go on and win the quarter-final was impressive and he’s done the right thing again.

“I can’t see them finishing in the top four, so the Europa League is clearly their best chance of Champions League football and they have every chance of doing it.”
