Rugby World Cup Top Points Scorer  Favourites

Johnny Sexton – 9/4

The Sexton story continues and he has been cut into 9/4 from 12/1 to be the Top Points Scorer at the tournament following his opening Pool Stage performances.

Sexton was superb against Romania in the opening fixture against Romania, hitting seven from eight conversion attempts before being replaced in the 66th minute by Jack Crowley. A similar script followed against Tonga, one try, 4/4 conversions and 1/1 penalties before coming off in the 41st minute for Ross Byrne with the game well sown up.

If he continues in this vain Ireland will be hard stop.

But is he Ireland’s best?

George Ford– 4/1

With all the talk and attention around the suspended Owen Farrell, Sale Sharks man George Ford came in at Flyhalf in a huge pressure game for an out-of-form England as they commenced their Rugby World Cup campaign.

What ensued was a magnificent kicking display hitting 6/6 Penalties and 3/3 Drop Goal attempts which meant he scored all of England’s 27 points. His strong vein of form continued against Japan making 4/4 conversions and 2/3 penalties to guide them to a 34-12 win.

However, with Farrell returning regardless on whether Ford keeps his starter status for the tournament he is unlikely to play against Chile.

How England manage the Farrell conundrum will go a long way to their success in this competition.

Thomas Ramos – 9/2

Thomas Ramos has drifted from 5/2 to 9/2 to be the Top Points Scorer at the tournament following his seventeen-point haul against New Zealand. Ramos trails Johnny Sexton (40) at 9/4 and George Ford (41) at 3/1 following being given a rest for their second Pool Stage match against Uruguay.

However, Ramos will be expected to be back on kicking duty for France against Namibia who have conceded 52 points and 71 points in their first two Pool Games. Ramos will very likely put up another big haul in this one to put himself right back in the Top Points Scorer competition again.

Emiliano Boffelli – 5/1

Fourth favourite to be Top-Scorer at the 2023 Rugby World Cup, is Argentinian Winger/Full-Back Emiliano Boffelli (28) who has scored 273 points for his country in 53 caps and looks another likely contender for the prize.

Argentina were been in Pool D in a group which they will fancy themselves to win having been placed with an out-of-sorts England who recently lost to Fiji. Japan, Samoa and Chile.

Despite that in Argentina’s sole game so far he only racked up five points as they were beaten by England 27-10.

Others?

Elsewhere New Zealander Damien Mackenzie has 26-points so far in the tournament and can be gotten at 10/1.  Australian Ben Donaldson has 30-points and can be gotten at 10/1 while Richie Mo’unga for New Zealand can be gotten at 12/1 despite just 3 tournament points so far.
