Ballinabola Ed being backed in Irish Greyhound Derby betting

Ballinabola Ed is being well backed to win the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby after an impressive opening round performance on Saturday.

It wasn’t a perfect start for the Pat Buckley-trained star at Shelbourne Park, who was behind in the early stages of heat 25.

But a storming finish saw him wear down last year’s runner-up and kennelmate Singalong Sally to go 10/1 joint favourite from 12/1 with sponsors BoyleSports to go all the way.

Good Cody shares the favourite’s tag at 10/1 from 14/1 after posting the fastest time of the first round with a clock of 29.25 in Friday night’s heats.

KEY DATES

2nd Round Heats – Friday 26th & Saturday 27st August
3rd Round Heats – Saturday 3rd September
Quarter-Finals – Saturday 10th September
Semi-Finals – Saturday 17th September
Final – Saturday 24th September

He held off a stern effort from Ballymac Finn, but the runner-up is also coming in for strong support and has made an early move up the betting to 16/1 from 33/1 ahead of his second-round assignment.

Coolavanny Calvn and Coolavanny Hoffa are joint third favourites, with the former clipped into 12/1 from 16/1 following his heat 8 victory ahead of Bulletfromagun.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said:The appetite was well and truly whetted with some stunning first round performances and while Good Coody was the fastest, Ballinabloa Ed really caught the eye on Saturday night too.

Both have made early moves into 10/1 and we can’t separate them at this stage as the battle for favouritism hots up ahead of some mouth-watering second round heats.”
