Messi Training for Argentina BSI

Ballon d’Or Odds 2023 – Who Will Win The Ballon d’Or?

In this post you can find the Ballon d’Or odds 2023 as there is a familiar name vying to win football’s most prestigious individual award.

Ballon d’Or Odds 2023

Lionel Messi – 4/11

Messi is widely regarded by many as the Greatest Footballer of All-Time. He has an unmatchable tally of 710 goals and 339 assists in his 874 club matches. At the international level for Argentina, in 174 games he has 102 goals and 56 assists. That’s before we even go into his trophy haul winning virtually everything there is to win in the sport.

At (35) Messi is certainly in the twilight of his career and is no longer the force he once was with Barcelona. We recently learned that he will sign for Inter Miami so this will likely be his last chance to win a record-extending eight Ballon d’Or success.

With PSG this season across 40 games, he scored 21 goals and provided 20 assists which aren’t quite the numbers of a prime Messi but certainly still World Class numbers. This helped PSG to a Ligue 1 success, Trophée des Champions victory but most disappointingly a Round of 16 defeat in the Champions League.

However, it was his exploits during the 2022 World Cup where he put in some inspirational performances throughout the tournament, particularly in the final to win a World Cup for his country that had eluded him for so long. His 7 goals and 3 assists were enough to bring Messi to footballing immortality as he finally landed the World Cup he so desired!

It’s those performances that make him favourite for the Ballon d’Or even if the next candidate (in my book) could be more deserving.

Erling Haaland – 2/1

What a season this man had! Manchester City signed the Norwegian goal-scoring freak of nature last season as the key cog in the wheel to bring them the domination they desired.

They got exactly that with the club winning a historic treble which included winning the Premier League, defeating Manchester United in the FA Cup Final and beating Inter Milan in the Champions League Final.

Haaland was crucial in those successes to say the least. In 53 games the Norwegian scored 52 goals and provided 9 assists which included 12 goals and 1 assist in 13 Champions League games. The difference he has made to the club should have him as the front-runner for the coveted prize but Messi remains favourite mostly due to his performance at the 2022 World Cup.

Had Haaland scored or assisted in both the FA Cup Final and the Champions League Final rather than neither I think he would’ve been favourite but alas he did not.

Kevin De Bruyne – 33/1

The magician that is Kevin De Bruyne is a crucial component of the Manchester City attack and probably doesn’t get the praise and attention he deserves due to a certain somebody up-front.

Nevertheless, his sensational stats this season speak for itself. In 49 games he scored 10 goals and provided an unprecedented 31 assists. De Bruyne also assisted two of the goals in their FA Cup final victory but was taken off through injury in the Champions League Final.

File the likelihood of De Bruyne winning this as unlikely as odds of 33/1 suggest.

Any other player – 33/1

If you’re fancying a wildcard bet you can get any other player to win at 33/1. Had Mbappé won the World Cup after being top-scorer with 8 goals with also 2 assists he could’ve been a leading contender due to his performances. The French forward also scored 29 goals and had 6 assists for PSG, but realistically he hasn’t a chance due to PSG’s Champions League failure and his World Cup defeat.

Harry Kane had an excellent season with 30 goals and 3 assists but with no trophies won he has no chance of success. Griezmann also had a great season for Atletico with 15 goals and 17 assists.
