Fastest Heat Of Round 1

Heat (14) of Round (1) on Saturday had the fastest time of Round with Another Holiday posting a 29.23 run with sectionals of 3.46 and 17.01 coming 4.5 lengths clear of closest challenger Pape Di Oro vindicating my heat prediction perfectly.

“Another Holiday for M. J. Donovan looks likely to be in a class of his own here with his closest challenger being Papa Di Oro”

  1. (3) Another Holiday – 29. 23
  2. (5) Pape Di Oro – 4.5 lengths
  3. (1) Hanover Phantom – 1 length
  4. (2) McNeill – 1.5 lengths
  5. (4) Mayhas Baby – 10 lengths
  6. (6) Eager Colm – NK

This performance from Another Holiday means he has been clipped into 16/1 to land the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby.

BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby Round 2 Preview

Friday Night’s Heats 1-8

Heat 1:

  • Captain Garfio – 8/1
  • Faypoint Angry – 8/1
  • Gaytime Nemo – 4/6
  • Millridge Levi – 10/1
  • Savana Hero– 8/1
  • Newinn Port – 7/2

The English Derby Champion qualified for Round 2 by the skin of his teeth as one of the fastest fourth-finishers in an extremely difficult heat he was badly baulked but finished well to qualify. He will be expected to return to form with a win here but at 4/6 I would avoid and go for his lightly raced kennel-mate Newinn Port who has each-way claims.

Heat 2:

  • Clona Duke – EVS
  • Mr Chelm – 4/1
  • Deadly Showtime – 8/1
  • Romeo Magico – 6/1
  • Annah Bailey– 7/1
  • Clona Rocko – 5/1

An extremely competitive heat with each dog having each-way claims at a minimum, English Derby Finalist Clona Duke will be a worthy favourite though following his 29.43 last week but I am tipping Mr Chelm each way for the second successive week to qualify again following an encouraging 29.74 last weekend and will come on from that run further.

Heat 3:

  • Beepers Lariat – 7/2
  • Well Met –7/2
  • Garfiney Blaze -14/1
  • Bobsleigh Dream – 7/4
  • BoyleSports Bob– 5/2
  • Bulletfromagun– 10/1

Cases could be made for many in this heat with the obvious favourite being the superstar Bobsleigh Dream if she can trap even a little better she should win this heat. Bulletfromagun 10/1 has a big each-way chance again particularly if there is trouble.

Heat 4:

  • McNeill – 8/1
  • Catunda Syd–20/1
  • Clonirock Sydney – 9/2
  • Daleroad Duke – 13/8
  • Ballymac Walt– EVS
  • Box Office Benny– 33/1

Ballymac Wait looks like the classy sort in this race, didn’t trap like he can last weekend in the most competitive heat of the round. However, if he can trap on terms again and preferably a length or two quicker EVS will still be a good price.

Heat 5:

  • Ballyhimikin Rex – 10/3
  • Strike It Syd–33/1
  • Scagleitti – 11/8
  • Ballymac Finn –  NR
  • Burj Khalifa– 8/1
  • Good Maestro– 13/8

The heat of Round 2 (even with the disappointing withdrawal of Ballymac Finn)   three greyhounds in this race clocked between 29.24 and 29.33 last week you could honestly throw a dart at this one.

However, the loss of Ballymac Finn may just open the race for Scagleitti. Good Maestro clocked 29.24 last week only a spot off the fastest time of the Round and  I tipped him at 5/2 to be a  a value bet here but he has since gone into 13/8

Burj Khalifa has gone from 12/1 – 8/1 but I think he has good each way claims here.

Heat 6:

  • Free Time – 20/1
  • Lotto Other News– 16/1
  • Glengar Martha – 14/1
  • De Lahdedah– 7/4
  • Droopys Nice One – 6/1
  • Ballinbola Ed– 8/11

It’s a tale of inside vs outside in this one with the three dogs in the inside traps big prices compared with the three outside runners. Ballinbola Ed will be expected to be in a class of his own again but I like Droopys Nice One each way again at 6/1

Heat 7:

  • Hello Mom – 5/2
  • Storys Cashout–7/2
  • Threesixfive – 7/4
  • Sporty Big Man– 10/1
  • Carrigmore Logan– 10/1
  • Press Unlock– 4/1

This is one of the weaker heats on paper, with no heat winner from last weekend in fact besides Trap (3) each dog finished third or as one of the fastest fourth finishers. This is an opportunity for every dog in this race, but I think if Press Unlock can find the front she is a value bet at 4/1.

Heat 8:

  • Seven Beach – 7/2
  • Goldirocks Magic –8/1
  • Cheque For Sir- 6/1
  • Droopys Bro– 5/2
  • Crytpopunk– 4/1
  • Jetara– 5/2

Jetara was one I liked the look of in Round 1 but at 5/2 he is too short for me in this one, the early-paced bitch Goldirocks Magic has a strong each-way chance at 8/1.

Saturday Night’s Heats 9-16

Heat 9:

  • Stonepark Syd – 4/1
  • Millroad Bolger–10/1
  • Sober Glory – 5/2
  • Da Bold Freddie–25/1
  • Dromana Dano– 14/1
  • Ryhope Beach – 4/5

Ryhope Beach looks like a potential Derby Winner and should have far too much for his opposition in this one. If Stonepark Syd can come away well from the inside he has a decent each-way chance.

Heat 10:

  • Trinity Junior – 10/11
  • Hannover Phantom– 12/1
  • Ballymac Run – 9/2
  • Droopys Onestop– 6/1
  • Undulation– 10/1
  • Ballymac Johnjo–7/2

Trinity Junior is the star of this race, but I wouldn’t be getting on at money with some classy greyhounds still in the field. The early-paced Ballymac Run was second to Ballinbola Ed last weekend and I think she has solid each-way claims again.

Heat 11:

  • Millroad Bolger – 7/2
  • Scotty Scheffler–16/1
  • Commons Rebel – 12/1
  • Drombeg Ten– 12/1
  • Corbrack Dan– 25/1
  • Clonbrien Treaty– 1/3

Clonbrien Treaty despite an uncharacteristically unimpressive showing last weekend will be one of the shortest prices of the night given the weaker draw on paper (Trap 1 finished second last week with the remaining all coming third). Drombeg Ten is a solid each-way punt at 12/1 for a dog which trapped on terms with Coolavanny Hoffa last week.

Heat 12:

  • Another Holiday – 6/4
  • The Other Kobe–11/4
  • Stefans Rock- 33/1
  • Undisputed– 5/1
  • Pape Di Oro– 6/1
  • Optic Chico– 3/1

Another Holiday clocked the fastest time of Round 1 last weekend with a 29.23 as well as the quickest to the third-bend with a 17.01. Classy greyhound and a worthy favourite of heat. However, my tip is The Other Kobe each way at 11/4 who despite clocking the fourth quickest to the third bend of the round with 17.09 he can break much quicker than 3.51 and if he does will be a hard sort to beat.

Heat 13:

  • Ballymac Marino – 5/4
  • Droopys Got It–7/2
  • Disco Pants – 7/1
  • Millridge Bryce–10/1
  • Easy Razzle– 9/2
  • Music Glideaway–5/1

Ballymac Marino is too short for me for a dog which qualified by the skin of his teeth as one of the fastest fourths. Music Glideaway showed all sorts of gears to come from behind last week and at 5/1 has an each-way chance again.

Heat 14:

  • Freeway Charlie – 33/1
  • Storys Peewee– 16/1
  • Bockos Crystal – 4/1
  • Romeo Hotshot– 8/1
  • Docktechnik Diva– 16/1
  • Coolavanny Hoffa– 1/4

Coolavanny Hoffa was extremely impressive last weekend returning from the layoff to cement himself as a worthy Derby favourite. He will go off too short in this one though, so Bockos Crystal each way is my pick.

Heat 15:

  • Bens Teddy – 5/2
  • Ballymun Boy –10/1
  • Brookside Richie – 10/1
  • BoyleSports Vic– 6/1
  • Raha Mofo– 11/8
  • Tommys Hewick– 7/2

Raha Mofo will be a worthy favourite. My tip though is Brookside Richie each-way at 10/1 everything went wrong for him last week and he still qualified, has serious gears if he can get going.

Heat 16:

  • Hawkfield Blue – 7/4
  • Callaway Masters –3/1
  • Halo – 4/1
  • Pied Piper – 16/1
  • Move The World–20/1
  • Sogna In Grande– 9/4

Sogna In Grande was an impressive second last week to Clona Duke and I fancy him to go one better this weekend.

BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby Favourites

Coolavanny Hoffa – 5/1

The Michael J O’Donovan-trained Coolavanny Hoffa remains the favourite to win the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby following his Round 1 29.43 run with sectionals of 3.52 and 17.08

This was an exceptional performance, especially considering the dog was returning after a layoff of over ten months. Following the race trainer Michael J O’Donovan was short but sweet with his assessment “A plan going well…”

Following that run, the son of Droopys Sydney and Coolavanny Ella has been clipped into 6/1 from 8/1 to land the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby and it will take a special sort to beat him.

Clona Duke– 12/1

The Graham Holland-trained Clona Duke is the second favourite to win the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby following his performance in Round 1 where Clona Duke slipped up on the inside at the opening turn before going on to cross the winning post in Heat 7 stopping the clock with a rapid 29.47 run with sectionals of 3.53 and 17.20

Following that run, the son of Malachi and Coolavanny Pearl has been clipped into 12/1 to land the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby and win the Irish Greyhound Derby for Graham Holland’s fourth success.

Ballinbola Ed – 12/1

The Pat Buckley-trained Ballinbola Ed is the joint-second favourite to win the BoyleSports Irish Greyhound Derby but following his performance in Round 1 he has actually drifted in the betting back to 12/1 from 10s.

The son of Confident Rankin and Dolls Lady last outing on track coming second in a 550 in Dundalk two weeks ago where he lost by a short-head to Raha Mofo in 29.98 in the Dundalk International Final From 30 races, Ed has won 20 times and has only been out of the money 5 times, accumulating prize-money total so far of €60,445
