The narrow distance of a nose was the only difference between the Ted Walsh trained 10-year-old and Gordon Elliott’s Escaria Ten, who was well backed into 13/8 in the betting before being pipped at the post.

It was a thrilling finish in the Bobbyjo and plenty of antepost punters believe Any Second Now and Escaria Ten could be back at the business end again come the finish of this year’s Grand National.

Any Second Now was third in the Aintree showpiece last year behind Minella Times and is now 10/1 from 16/1 with BoyleSports to claim top honours this year, while Escaria Ten has also been cut into 10/1 from 16/1 making them joint favourites ahead of Snow Leopardess and Enjoy D’allen (both 14/1).

The victory completed a double on the card for jockey Mark Walsh and owner JP McManus as Icare Allen had earlier landed the opening Juvenile Hurdle to go 16/1 from 33/1 for the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival next month.

There has been significant support for both, so we’ve cut them into 10/1 from 16/1 and at this stage they are joint favourites given the early liabilities.
