Jon Rahm The Open Odds – Can He Win Spain’s First Since Seve?

We have Jon Rahm The Open odds for you as the Spaniard looks to become Spain’s first Open Champion since the late great Seve Ballesteros.

Does Rahm have the game to win on links golf? What is his recent form like leading into this year’s final major? We answer all those questions and more below as we examine Rahm’s chances at winning the 2023 Open Championship.

Jon Rahm Open Championship Betting Odds

Jon Rahm is 12/1 in the betting odds to win the U.S. Open in 2023. Those odds make Rahm the  third  favourite for the 2023 Open Championship behind Scottie Scheffler at 9/1 and Rory Mcllroy at 15/2

As World Number (2) and the 2023 Masters Champion, Rahm is one of the most talented and consistent golfers currently playing on the PGA Tour. From sixteen events played this season, he has four victories, 9 Top-10s, 11 Top-25s and has only missed the cut twice.

Victory in Royal Liverpool could see him return to Number (1), and it would take a foolish person to rule him out at this year’s event.

Jon Rahm’s Form

Jon Rahm’s last five tournament finishes:

Travelers Championship – Missed Cut

US Open – T10th

The Memorial – T16th

The PGA Championship – T50th

Mexico Open – 2nd

Rahm’s form has definitely dipped since his Masters win in April. Prior to that he had finished top-10 in all but one event that he had completed (he pulled out of the Players Championship through illness).

Since his Masters victory he has only managed two top-10s. The first of those coming in the Mexico Open (2nd) and the next at the US Open (T10th).

Rahm’s Recent Major Form

Jon Rahm’s finishes in 2023 major championships:

The Masters – Won

The PGA Championship – T50th

The US Open – T10th

The biggest success for Rahm this year of course came at the 2023 Masters. The Spaniard shot -12 to win the event for the first time coming four shots clear of LIV Golf rebels Brooks Koepka and Phil Mickelson.

Rahm has failed to really get going at the majors since then however. At the PGA Championship in May he finished a disappointing T50.

In the most recent major championship he finished T10th at the US Open but was never in contention. A final round 65 earned him a back door top-10 but it was still a disappointing tournament for him given he was one of the favourites.

Jon Rahm Open Championship Record

Jon Rahm’s first appearance at the Open Championship came in 2016, where he finished T59; he then finished T44 in 2017 and was CUT in 2018.

However, his form has improved since then, finishing T11 in 2019, T3 in 2021 but a disappointing T34 again in 2022.

While Rahm might not have the most impressive Open Championship resume so far don’t let that fool you into thinking he struggles playing links golf.

The Spaniard is a two-time Irish Open champion. In 2017 he broke scoring record for the Irish Open at Portstewart and equalled his own record in 2019 when winning at Lahinch. Both of these being classic links golf courses.

Jon Rahm Major Wins

Jon Rahm won his first and only major championship at the 2021 U.S. Open, which was held at Torrey Pines in California. Rahm hit rounds of 69-70-72-67 on the Par 71 course to finish the tournament with a score of -6, beating second-placed Louis Oosthuizen by one stroke and third-placed Harris English by three strokes.

Following that victory, he went through a major rut which included a very poor year at the majors in 2022. Rahm put that behind him though this year as he captured his second major at the 2023 Masters back this April. In that tournament he shot -12 to win by four strokes in a much deserved victory.

If he can win this year’s Open Championship he would become the first Spaniard since the iconic Seve Ballesteros to be crowned Champion Golfer of the Year. But he will need to recapture the form we saw from him earlier in the year and not what we’ve seen from him of late.

Jon Rahm’s Chances At Winning The Open 2023

The talent is clearly there, the major championship pedigree is obviously there with two already secured and you’d be foolish to discount his links credentials given what we’ve seen from him at the Irish Open in previous years.

Odds of 12/1 on Rahm winning this year’s Open look intriguing here and he should definitely be given strong consideration before placing your bets for this year’s Open Championship.

Among the other favourites that Rahm will have to beat if he is to win this event are Rory McIlroy (who’s chances we previewed here) and Scottie Scheffler (who’s chances of winning this year’s Open we previewed here).
