Bohemians still lead the Premier Division despite having lost out at home 2-0 to Shamrock Rovers in the Dublin Derby. They showed excellent bouncebackability to go up to the Brandywell last Friday Night and snatch victory v Derry through 66th minute Dean Williams penalty.
Many expected Bohemians to fall away quickly after their fast start but they have shown no signs of letting up now ¼ of the way through the season they’re 6-points clear at the top after nine matches.
St Patrick’s Athletic have finally clicked into gear, after a slow start to the season, they have been impressive recently winning their last three matches, scoring ten goals and only conceding one.
On the back of that three-game spell their fifteen-goal scored is the second highest in the division only less than Shamrock Rovers who have eighteen. Of those fifteen goals, eleven of them have come from the trio of Forrester, Mulraney and Doyle.

That run of form has put them third in the table only one point behind Derry City and one behind Bohemians. Shamrock Rovers fans will be satisfied that they’re already starting to come within touching distance of the top after a very slow start.

Shelbourne comes into this match on the back of a 2-1 victory over Sligo Rovers, Damien Duff’s side was credited last Friday for when going ahead with being impossible to break down after going ahead.
That is the hallmark of this Shelbourne side which has a certain Jose Mourinho-like quality to it with six goals and only five conceded. A win for Shelbourne could bring them as high as second in the table.

UCD continue to struggle this season losing away to Shamrock Rovers 3-0 last time out however in their game previous they earned their second point of the season and thus doubled their total with a 0-0 home draw v Shelbourne which was nice to see some defensive solidity in the team.
UCD in their earlier fixture v Cork City away this season they lost 4-0 but will surely have learned their lessons from that match and could approach the game less openly.
Cork City have been putting poor performances week in and week out recently losing 2-0 at home v Shelbourne, drawing 1-1 at home v Drogheda and getting demolished 4-0 away to St Patrick’s Athletic.
However last time out they had an encouraging 1-0 home victory over Dundalk young (17) year-old midfielder Joe O’Brien Whitmarsh was one of the additions into the starting 11 to make a big difference for Cork City. A win for Cork City could bring them as high as fifth.

Cork City need to be winning this and they seem to perform better away from home so I am going for a 3-0 win to Cork City.

Sligo Rovers come into this match following a dramatic 2-1 defeat to Shelbourne where after a fortuitous goal put Shelbourne 2-1, it was always going to be extremely difficult for them to break down an always well-drilled Shelbourne side.
That was their second defeat in three matches the other a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Bohemians with their only victory sandwiched in-between both games was a 2-1 away victory albeit v an out-of-form Dundalk.
The table is extremely tight though with six points separating ninth and second meaning a win for them on Friday could bring them as high as second.

Drogheda comes into this match following a 3-1 home defeat to a resurgent St Patrick’s Athletic which was a disappointing performance in what has been a decent season for Drogheda, arguably missing Emmanuel Adegboyega from his controversial suspension in their 1-0 away victory over Derry.
In their first fixture of the season, Drogheda had a 1-0 home victory back in early March if they can repeat that feat in The Showgrounds on Friday they could climb to second.

The league is extremely tight, and I don’t think there is much between these two times either, I reckon this could be a 2-2 draw.

Dundalk are a curious case; they started the season with some decent results, but the performances were very often not there notably getting very lucky in their Louth Derby victory over Drogheda. It seemed like only a matter of time before the performances would come too but it’s gone the other way for Dundalk.
After a 4-0 home demolition to Shamrock Rovers, the wheels have fallen off further with defeats to Sligo Rovers and Cork City (both teams they’d have expected to finish ahead of at the start of the season). The pressure could be starting to build on O’Donnell.

Derry City in the space of two matches has gone from being the only unbeaten side in the division to one which has two defeats following narrow 1-0 home defeats from the visiting Drogheda and Bohemians. It should be noted that The Brandywell pitch harms Derry in their style of play with them often performing better at home.
That being said v Drogheda they had a staggering 75% of possession and twenty-one shots to their opponent’s seven and v Bohemians they had 62% of possession and fifteen shots to their opponent’s six, the underlying numbers remain positive.
Dundalk v Derry City Prediction
Dundalk are in dreadful form and Derry performs even better away from home. I can see this only going one way and that’s a 3-0 Derry victory.

League of Ireland Women’s Premier Division
The Women’s National has also gotten underway in recent weeks, Peamount lead the way with 12 points from their opening five matches who are hotly followed by Shelbourne and Shamrock Rovers on 10-points.
On the other end of the table Sligo are looking for their first points of the season with 0 after four matches while Cork City WFC only have the one point to show so far.
