Cork City v Drogheda United

Where? Turners Cross, Cork

MATCH BETTING ODDS
Cork City are currently Evs to win their second game of the season, Drogheda is currently 13/5 while the draw is 23/10.
Preview
Cork City play host to Drogheda United on Friday Night in Turners Cross on what promises to be an interesting night in Cork. Cork City have had a decent start of the season with 5 points from their opening six matches although their 2-0 defeat at home to Shelbourne last time out was arguably their worst performance of the season.
Their inexperience has arguably cost them more points, despite scoring 11 Goals, the joint-most in the league, they have conceded 12 Goals which is the joint-second most in the league. “The Entertainers” average 3.83 Total Goals in their games.
Drogheda comes into this match 3 Points better off than Cork and one place above them in the league after an impressive start to the season with 8 points from their opening 6 matches of the season. Drogheda last time out narrowly lost at home to Dundalk 1-0 in the “Louth Derby” a match where they missed a penalty.
In contrast to their opponents, Drogheda has only four goals and five conceded the latter of which can be partially credited to on-loan man Elicha Ahui (19) who has been excellent this season.
Prediction
This should be an evenly matched contest, from two sides performing above common expectations at the early stage of the season. Home Advantage will be crucial here I think so I predict a 2-0 win for Cork City.

Shelbourne v Derry City
When? 7.45 pm, Friday, March 31st
Where? Tolka Park, Dublin
How To Watch? LOITV.ie
MATCH BETTING ODDS
Shelbourne despite home advantage are outsiders at 7/2, Derry City are strong favourites at 10/11 while the draw is 21/10.
Preview
Shelbourne plays host to Derry City on Friday Night in Tolka Park where the competition’s joint-best defences (3 Conceded each) go head-to-head in Gameweek 7. Last time out Shelbourne had an impressive 2-0 away victory to Cork City in which a well-drilled Damien Duff side pulled off the victory despite having only four shots to their opponent’s fourteen.
Duff has brought a Mourinho-esque temperament to the side which gives them a chance in every game they play despite being the joint lowest scorers in the division with 4 Goals.
Derry City remains the only unbeaten side in the Premier Division with three wins and three draws from their opening six matches. They have the joint second-best attack with ten goals scored and the joint-best defence with four goals conceded drawing their last two games 1-1 away to Sligo and 0-0 away to Dundalk.
Can they keep their unbeaten run going or will efficient Shelbourne keep their early season form and win?
Prediction
Another very evenly matched contest with the league’s two best defences. I can see this being a 1-1 draw.

Dundalk v Shamrock Rovers
When? 7.45 pm, Friday, March 31st
Where? Oriel Park, Dundalk
How To Watch? LOITV.ie
MATCH BETTING ODDS
Dundalk despite home advantage are outsiders at 11/4, Shamrock Rovers are strong favourites at 20/21 while the draw could prove value at 12/5.
Preview
Dundalk host Shamrock Rovers in Oriel Park Friday Night in what should be an evenly matched contest. Dundalk are coming into this match in good form with three wins and two draws from their opening six matches, with 10 Goals scored (joint second-best) and 4 Conceded (joint second-best) they are unbeaten in their last four.
Stephen O’Donnell has recruited well in the off-season with the likes of Connor Malley and Rayhaan Tulloch crucial to their efforts this season along with Super-Keeper Nathan Sheppard who were all excellent in their Louth Derby victory last time out and will go into this match full of confidence.
Shamrock Rovers have flattered to deceive in their opening six matches with 5 draws and one defeat, people are now starting to doubt the title credentials of a side which many expected to win their fourth league title in a row in 2023.
Last time out they drew 2-2 at home vs St Patrick’s Athletic but had it not been for a Jake Mulraney wonder strike in the 88th minute they would have grabbed their first win of the season. They will need to start picking up wins soon or their title aspirations will be in severe jeopardy.
Prediction
An in-form Dundalk will fancy their chances in this one, but there is still a lot of quality in the Shamrock Rovers team so I can see this being another 1-1 draw.

St Patrick’s Athletic v UCD
When? 7.45 pm, Friday, March 31st
Where? Richmond Park, Dublin
How To Watch? LOITV.ie
MATCH BETTING ODDS
St Patrick’s Athletic are heavy favourites at 2/9, UCD are big outsiders at 12/1 while the draw is 9/2.
Preview
St Patrick’s Athletic will hope that Richmond Park can be their lucky charm again as they host UCD looking for their first win since their GameWeek 1 home win vs Shelbourne.
Despite many expecting them to be fighting it out for Europe again this season, Tim Clancy’s men have not had a strong start to the season having only earned 5 points in their opening six matches. But that 88th-minute Jake Mulraney wonder strike to grab a draw away to Shamrock Rovers last time out could be exactly the catalyst they needed to kick their season into gear.
UCD has struggled this season, with five defeats in their opening six matches. Their sole point came in a 1-1 draw v Dundalk in Oriel Park. UCD play an attractive possession style of play and while it remains pleasing to the eye, they remain very open at the back conceding the most in the competition so far with fifteen goals.
The last two times out they have been competitive though only losing 1-0 at home to Drogheda and most impressively only losing out 2-1 to league leaders Bohemians in their last game after going 1-0 up away from home.
Prediction
St Patrick’s Athletic should have too much for UCD and I expect them to win 3-0.

Sligo Rovers v Bohemians
When? 7.45 pm, Saturday, April 1st
Where? The Showgrounds, Sligo
How To Watch? LOITV.ie
MATCH BETTING ODDS
Nothing separates either side in the betting with Sligo Rovers at 17/10, while Bohemians are 13/8 and the draw is at 11/5.
Preview
Sligo Rovers play host to Bohemians in The Showgrounds in an evenly matched game where the traders cannot separate the sides. While many expected Sligo to struggle this season they have been efficient and competitive in every game so far earning a record of two wins, three draws and only one defeat from their opening six matches.
They have never been more than one goal away from their opponent with nine goals and eight conceded. New Zealand International Max Mata’s five Goals in his opening six games have their fans forgetting about a certain Aidan Keena or even Johnny Kenny.
Credit where credit is due, Bohemians have been excellent so far this season with Declan Devine putting together a team many would argue are playing beyond their expectations with five wins in their opening six matches which has them at top of the table.
There have been top performers all across the pitch for Bohemains with Ali Coote and Jordan Flores crucial to the joint-best attack in the league with eleven goals. For me though the return of Keith Buckley with his leadership and versatility has been the defining factor for the club’s great start to the season so far.
Prediction
With two in-form well-matched sides, I am predicting another 1-1 draw.
