Neil Lennon: Title Race Is Over If Celtic Win Old Firm

The race for the Scottish Premier League could be over as soon as this Monday’s Old Firm clash between Celtic and Rangers.

That is according to former Celtic manager Neil Lennon who we got the chance to speak to at BoyleSports recently.

Lennon also revealed what area of the pitch would be key in deciding this Old Firm and the chances of Ryan Kent getting a move to the Premier League.

If Celtic win this Old Firm is the title race over?

You have to say the title race is over if Celtic win the game. 12 points is a lot, and if Celtic win the momentum will all be with them.

Celtic have not been great in terms of the games earlier on, however when building up to these games, the Old Firm will always be at the back of everybody’s mind.

They’ll go into the game with confidence and if they win, there’s not stopping them. If Rangers win though, the gap will only be six points and they will believe that the title race is still on.

What area of the field is most key in this Old Firm game?

The midfield battle will always be vital in a derby of that nature. Celtic have had the better of it since Ange has come in, and I think it is because they’ve looked better in midfield during the majority of the games.

The battle between McGregor and Lundstram will be pivotal for both teams. Rangers will have to find a way to stop Celtic’s flow and fluidity.

They will have to try and break up Celtic’s rhythm. The game is all on Rangers though as they cannot afford to lose this game.

If they lose, the title race is over as they will never make up a twelve point gap at this stage of the season. Celtic’s mentality in these games has also been excellent though, and their style of football could cause Rangers problems.

What do you think the chances are of Ryan Kent moving to the Premier League?

Ryan Kent is a very good player. He has not been productive over the last six months as he previously has been, but he is a player who is good enough for the Premier League.

It will be interesting to see though if he would want to stay or go. Hagi is a talented player who will need to have bulked up as he is a little light for the Scottish league, so I’m hoping he will have come back from the break as an improved player.

However, I will be amazed if Rangers decide to sell Ryan, and I’m not aware of a huge amount of interest for him. He will need to be better in the second half of the season before anyone takes him on.
