Sheffield United’s Form
Sheffield United were promoted to the Premier League following their second-place Championship finish last season. They were ten points behind winners Burnley but comfortable for automatic promotion, eleven points ahead of third-place finishers and playoff winners Luton Town to return to the league for the first time since their relegation in the 20/21 Premier League season.
During the off-season, there was naturally some changes in personnel at the club. Notably from their last spell in the league Jack O’Connell retired, Billy Sharp went to La Galaxy, Enda Stevens to Stoke City and their biggest loss was Sander Berge who went to Burnley.
Sheffield have brought in six players with Gustavo Hamer from Coventry City and most recently Cameron Archer from Aston Villa looking to be their most shrewd acquisitions.
The club had a poor pre-season record coming into the season with three defeats, two wins and one draw. Three games into the season they’re pointless, which has seen Paul Heckingbottom cut into 10/3 to be the first manager to leave their post in the Premier League this season.
Despite not having any points to show for their opening games the Blades have only lost each game by a sole goal. It was 0-1 against Crystal Palace, 2-1 against Nottingham Forest and 1-2 against champions Manchester City.
Everton’s Form
Everton had a very poor 22/23 season which saw them battle against the drop. Following the sacking of Frank Lampard back in January Sean Dyche came in with the team in the relegation zone. Luckily for Everton, seven points in their last four games of the season meant they avoided relegation on the final day as they came ahead of Leicester City in eighteenth place by two points.
Everton fans went into the season expecting a more positive season this year, but the off-season has proved difficult. Despite losing very few major first-team squad members, they’ve only brought in three names during the summer.
Ashley Young came on a Free Transfer from Aston Villa, Forward Youssef Chermiti came from Sporting for £12,900,000 and most recently Forward Beto came in from Udinese today for £26,000,000.
Their pre-season was surprisingly positive with four wins and one draw. However, this hasn’t translated into the league this season losing 0-1 to Fulham, 4-0 to Aston Villa and 0-1 against Wolves. This run of results has seen manager Sean Dyche cut into 5/2 favourite to be the first manager to leave his post in the league during the season.
