Mae Muller – UK Eurovision Representative BSI

The UK’s Eurovision Betting Odds – Going One Better This Year?

Check out the UK’s Eurovision betting odds in this post as we preview their chances of ending a 26-year wait for Eurovision glory.

It’s now 26 years since British Rock Band Katrina and the Waves won the Eurovision Song Contest with their song Love Shine a Light.

While their Eurovision fortunes have not been prolific since then, last year’s UK entry Sam Ryder came second to Ukraine while also topping the jury votes. That was their best performance since a second-place finish in 1998. The contest is being held in Liverpool in May due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Will this be the year that the United Kingdom finally wins the Eurovision again? Find out their chances, betting odds, the song and the UK representative ahead of Eurovision 2023 below.

The UK’s Eurovision Betting Odds

The UK’s Eurovision betting odds for 2023 are 22/1 which gives the country a 4.35% chance of winning the Eurovision Song Contest going by the implied probability of those odds.

These long odds make the United Kingdom an outsider in the betting market meaning that Mae Muller will need to upset the odds to land victory in Liverpool this May.

Eurovision Betting Favourites 2023

Sweden 4/5

Sweden has been installed as the red-hot favourite for Eurovision 2023 at odds of 4/5 for their song Tattoo with former winner Loreen.

Sweden means business at this year’s contest as they bring back Loreen who won the contest with them for the hit song “Euphoria” back in 2012.

That song been arguably one of if not the most successful Eurovision songs to break out into the mainstream in recent history. This latest song has only been out since March 11th and has already been viewed over 2.7 million times on YouTube as it looks to be the main contender for this year’s prize.

Finland 7/2

Finland is the second favourite for this year’s contest at 7/2 for their song Cha Cha Cha sung by Finnish rapper Käärijä.

Finland has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest fifty-five times since entering first back in 1961. They have won the contest on one occasion in 2006 with the song “Hard Rock Hallelujah” performed by Lordi.

In the 2022 contest, “Jezebel” performed by The Rasmus managed to qualify Finland to the final placing twenty-first.

Ukraine 5/1

Ukraine is the third favourite to win Eurovision 2023 at 5/1 odds with the song “Heart of Steel” performed by TVORCHI. The implied probability of those odds suggests Ukraine has a 40% chance of winning this year’s Eurovision.

Ukraine is the defending champions having won the Eurovision last year with the song “Stefania” performed by Kalush Orchestra. The country received 439 points in televoting in the final which was the most ever received by a country.

A lot of people believe that Ukraine’s success in Eurovision 2022 is related to the invasion by Russia and other European countries wanting to show support for Ukraine.

Norway 14/1

The fourth favourite in the betting for this year’s Eurovision is Norway at 14/1 odds. Norway will be represented by Alessandra with the song “Queen of Kings” at this year’s song contest.

The Norwegians have won the Eurovision three times with the most recent of those victories coming in 2009 courtesy of Alexander Rybak’s hit song “Fairytale”. This is another Scandinavian country with a strong recent track record in the competition with six top-10 finishes over the past 10 years.

How Many Times Have the UK Won The Eurovision?

The United Kingdom has won the Eurovision 5 times. Their first victory in the contest came ten years after their first appearance in 1967 with their entrant Sandie Shaw who sang “Puppet on a String”. Their second victory would come in 1969 when Lulu sang “Boom Bang-a-Bang”.

Their third success at the event came with the Pop Group Brotherhood of Man who sang the song titled “Save Your Kisses for Me” in 1976 and their fourth success would also come from a British Pop Group this time Bucks Fizz with their hit “Making Your Mind Up” in 1981.

Despite being consistent performers throughout the 1980s and 1990s where they regularly placed at the top of the leaderboard including being runners-up in 1988, 1989, 1992 and 1993, they did not win their fifth and most recent success until 1997 with Katrina and The Waves hit Love Shine a Light. Could the 26-year wait be finally over on home soil in 2023?

The country with the most Eurovision wins is Ireland with seven song contest victories. In a recent post we previewed Ireland’s chances of adding to their record tally at Eurovision 2023.
