Will Harry Kane Join Man United? Andy Cole Gives His Verdict

One of the big questions in European Football right now is ‘Will Harry Kane join Man United?’ and now Andy Cole has weighed in on the debate.

The former Man United striker knows all about scoring goals for the Red Devils having hit the back of the next 91 times for United in his six years at the club.

Cole also gave his take on the Wout Weghorst loan deal, Amad Diallo’s returning to the first team, whether United should prioritise a Declan Rice transfer and if the club should be in the market for any Chelsea players.

Will Harry Kane Join Man United?

Q. With all the negativity surrounding Tottenham, how likely is it that we see Harry Kane leaving this summer? Is he destined for Man United?

If Harry Kane wants to leave Tottenham and Manchester United want to spend £80m+ on a 29-year-old, soon to be 30, then that’s entirely up to them. For me, Manchester United have to make up their mind whether they want to go for more senior players like Casemiro so they can bring success quicker, or they can build for the future.

If you buy Kane, you need to replace him in two years time. Manchester United have been doing that for too long now, since Robin van Persie came in for two years. Look at Manchester City when they bought Erling Haaland at 22-years-old, they can keep him for five years then sell him for a profit while getting the best out of him.

The instant success route of the transfer strategy will catch up with you eventually, because you’ll need to replace those older players. If Manchester United buy Kane and someone like Declan Rice, they still wouldn’t be able to win the league anyway because the point gap between Manchester City is too big.

Two players can improve your team, but they won’t make you overtake Manchester City. Everyone was talking about Arsenal winning the league this season and they folded because Manchester City are the better team and have the better squad.

Q. Would you be annoyed to score 30 goals in a Premier League season and not win the Golden Boot? Kane has done it twice now in 17/18 and this season.

If Harry Kane is all about scoring goals for himself and wants to win personal accolades, the he will be p****d off with Erling Haaland smashing the records this season. But if he is a team player and cares about getting his team in Europe then it shouldn’t matter.

Ultimately, I’d much prefer finishing in a European spot than scoring 30 goals personally but the team finish in eighth. It’s about team ethics and what kind of teammate you are.

The Wout Weghorst Loan

Q. Is Wout Weghorst up there as one of the worst loans you’ve seen?

Wout Weghorst’s loan was an interesting one. In the end, it didn’t work out how Erik ten Hag intended. Weghorst didn’t score in the league, one goal in the League Cup and one in the Europa League.

Some things work out and some things don’t work out, that’s football. Even with Anthony Martial injured for the FA Cup final, it will be interesting to see if Weghorst makes it in the starting XI, even when they are missing a striker.

Ten Hag has the opportunity to play Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho in a front three. I’d be very surprised if Manchester United buy Weghorst in the summer, he’s not a player who can help towards winning a league title.

Cole’s Take On Amad Diallo Returning To United

Q. Are you excited to see Amad Diallo back at Man United after a great season at Sunderland? Yorke said Sancho and Martial don’t have the fire in their belly, will he be their replacement?

Amad Diallo could be the player to replace Anthony Martial or Jadon Sancho. He’s had a fantastic loan at Sunderland and Tony Mowbray has sung his praises. Diallo looks like a good kid too and I hope he can have an impact at Manchester United.

This loan period has worked out really well and now he has the opportunity to compete with players like Sancho and Martial from the bench.

Should Man United Sign Declan Rice?

Q. Would you prioritise signing Declan Rice? If it also meant that Arsenal, Chelsea or Man City don’t sign him too?

If Declan Rice is costing around £100m, then Manchester United might as well go for Jude Bellingham as he’s in the same price bracket.

Even if Bellingham is going to Real Madrid, nothing is confirmed yet. I know who I would go for if I had to choose who to spend £100m on. Let’s wait and see.

Mason Mount To Man United

Q. Would you take any Chelsea players at Man United?

None of those Chelsea players improve Manchester United. They can’t be any worse next season otherwise they’ll be in big trouble.

I know there’s talk of Mason Mount, he’s a decent player who works hard and puts a shift in. But Manchester United need someone with that ‘X factor’ and has flair. Someone like Jude Bellingham who drives the team forward.
