What Did Kilmacud Crokes Do?

The Derry men came up two points short as the Dublin champions claimed a first All-Ireland title since 2009, but the result has been thrown up in the air by video footage appearing to show 16 Kilmacud players on the pitch defending a crucial late ’45 as the Ulster champions chased a match-winning goal.

Glen Accepted Result But Now Considering Appeal

Glen manager Malachy O’Rourke initially accepted the result saying “We’ll accept we got beat on the day,” however the club are said to be mulling over an appeal which may force authorities to trigger a replay, with rules stating that proven breaches of the rule can be sanctioned by a forfeit of the game, a replay or a fine.

Joe Brolly Says The Game Must Be Replayed

BoyleSports chalked up the chances of a replay taking place at 6/1 on Monday, but an increasing number of requests forced them to trim the odds into 9/2 as former Derry star Joe Brolly added to the clamour for a rematch.

Here’s what the opinionated Brolly, a practising barrister had to say via Twitter in regards to the debate around the game being replayed.

The game must be replayed. Otherwise there is no integrity in our system. The GAA’s reputation will be zero. This has nothing to do with Glen or Kilmacud.

Will The All-Ireland Football Final Be Replayed?

It’s hard to say for certain but it appears to be in the hands of Glen now. Some reports claim that if Glen are to launch an appeal into the legitimacy of the result given that Crokes fielded an extra player at the end then the success of that appeal would be all but a formality.

This is one of the craziest stories that we’ve ever seen in gaelic football and with Kilmacud Crokes having already celebrated winning an All-Ireland title it is hard to imagine what those players must be going through right now. Now, they wait to see if they will be forced to do go to battle all over again.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said:

The talk about an All-Ireland final replay is growing louder and if an appeal lands, there will be plenty of food for thought for the authorities.

We considered a replay a remote possibility on Monday morning, but at 9/2 the odds are shortening and we’re definitely keeping a close eye on Glen’s intentions in the coming hours.”
