Anthony Joshua v Jermaine Franklin Preview

Anthony Joshua enters this fight as the heavy favourite to beat Jermaine Franklin as he looks to win his first fight in over two years which came in his 9th Round KO victory over Kubrat Pulev on the 12th of December 2020. Since then, he has lost twice to Oleksandr Usyk first by UD in September 2021 and by MD in August 2022.

What Anthony Joshua Has Been Saying Ahead Of The Fight

At the pre-fight press conference Joshua had a few interesting quotes about his attitude coming into the fight and his motivations.

“It’s a serious fight, Good opponent. If he had the belts I’d take him the same way, if he doesn’t have the belts, I’ve got to take him the same way. I’ve got to give the man his respect ‘cause he’s coming to fight, and that’ll make me keep my feet on the ground and take him seriously”.

“Money. I like making money, straight up. This is a prizefighting sport. I’ve been broke, my family’s been broke. I know what this s**t means, and I do it because I’m good at it and I hustle hard, and when it’s all said and done no one will care about me no more. So, I’ve got to make the most of it while I’m here.”

What Jermaine Franklin Has Been Saying Ahead Of The Fight

Jermaine Franklin is coming into what has been described in some quarters as the “biggest fight opportunity of his career” when he faces former two-time heavyweight champ, Anthony Joshua. Franklin has a career record of 21-1(14) losing his first-ever fight last time out by MD to Dillian Whyte back in November a fighter whom his opponent Joshua has beaten previously albeit back in December 2015.

Franklin has been bullish about his prospects on Saturday night “I’ve got the utmost confidence I believe I can beat anybody. That’s never a doubt in my mind. If you doubt yourself, you’re in the wrong sport, this ain’t the sport for that. So as a man, he’s a man just like I am. He bleeds just like I do, so I got the confidence to pull this victory out.

“It would be an excellent moment for my career. I got the will, I got the heart for it, so I’m ready to go to war as always.”

Anthony Joshua v Jermaine Franklin Prediction

Franklin’s confidence aside, Joshua is the more experienced fighter and is the justifiable heavy favourite for this bout. It’s all about AJ on Saturday night the “AJ Show” for want of a better term and so the pressure will be all on him. Is there a sense of déjà vu with this fight on Saturday as we recall Joshua’s “shock” defeat to Ruiz in 2019 or will Joshua just be too good for the young boxer?

Eddie Hearn has admitted he is nervous coming into the fight stating “Franklin, 21-1(14) is sure talking a great fight, saying he will KO Joshua and that he will taunt him in the ring as the fight progresses”.

While Franklin’s trainer Jessie Addison has reflected on his fighter’s last defeat stating “everything happened for a reason am if you do lose a fight you wanna learn from it, you don’t wanna lose a lot but if you do lose you learn more from a loss than a win and we definitely learned from this one”. Despite that, I cannot see past Joshua, but it’s boxing so you never really do know.
