Fiorentina followed up their seventh-placed finish league finish last season with another decent year in the 22/23 season. The Italian club finished in eight-place, six-points behind Juventus in seventh.

They also had a strong campaign in Italy’s domestic cup competition in the Coppa Italia where they lost to Champions League Finalists Inter Milan 1-2 in the final two weeks ago.

They drew Lech Poznan in the next round beating them 1-4 in the first leg away from home and survived a scare in the second leg 2-3 to confirm their Semi-Final place.

They finally earned their final spot by overcoming Basel despite falling to a 1-2 first-leg defeat, they overcame that deficit winning 1-3 AET to confirm their 3-4 aggregate victory and Final place.

West Ham’s Form

West Ham has had a bizarre season which domestically can be considered a disappointment after finishing seventh last season they fell to a fourteenth-place finish this season only securing Premier League security in the final weeks of the season.

That form saw many tip Moyes to be sacked throughout the season, but he has survived for now anyway.

Despite poor league form, West Ham have flourished in Europe having started their campaign back in August in the Play-off round defeating Viborg 3-1 at home and 0-3 away to qualify for the Group Stage.

In the Group Stage, they were drawn in Group B alongside Anderlecht, Silkeborg and FCSB had a perfect record of six wins from their six matches, scoring 13 goals and only conceding 4 which was more than enough to Advance to the round of 16 automatically  8-points clear of Anderlecht.

In the Round of 16, they were drawn against AEK Larnaca making light work of them beating them 0-2 in the first leg and 4-0 in the second leg to reach the Quarter-Final. In the Quarter-Final first leg, they had a disappointing 1-1 away draw before finishing the job in the second leg with a 4-1 home win.

West Ham finally earned their final spot by overcoming AZ winning 2-1 at home and 0-1 away to reach their first European Final since The 1965 European Cup Winners’ Cup Final.

Fiorentina’s Attack

Fiorentina are likely to employ some version of a  4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 formation which they have split almost evenly between throughout the season. They play a possession-based game where they like to control the game in the oppositions half while mixing up their attacks down the middle but also down the flanks.

Their primary goal threat is Brazilian Arthur Cabral who has 7 goals in his 13 Conference League games and his strength in particular at aerial duels and flicking on balls to his teammates will be a threat. Fiorentina has scored an impressive 2.57 goals per match in the competition.

West Ham’s Defence

David Moyes sets his side out defensively solid with a flat back-four along with two holding midfielders one of which is a certain Declan Rice in what could be his last appearance for the club as he is tipped for a summer move. Fiorentina plays a possession-based game and so employs a high defensive line and offside trap which could potentially be exploited by West Ham and in particular Antonio. Like West Ham, they’re competent in the air and at set-pieces with Martinez, Milenkovic, Gonzalez and Kouamé all averaging at least 2.2 Aerials won per game.

The weakest area of Fiorentina’s defence is defending against through-ball attacks and skilful players. This matches up with the West Ham’s best attacking traits unfortunately for Florentina. They have conceded 1.1 goals per game in this competition.
