How is the betting market shaping up?

The odds-on Rory McIlroy or Shane Lowry adding to their major tallies at the PGA Championship are drifting with BoyleSports ahead of tee-off this week at the Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York.

Masters Champion Jon Rahm is joint 7/1 favourite for the second major championship of the season alongside Scottie Scheffler, who is hoping to continue a hot run of American winners of the event dating back to 2016.

World number 3 McIlroy has been eased to 11/1 from 9/1 with BoyleSports after he finished a disappointing T-47th at the Wells Fargo Championship earlier his month, his only outing since missing the cut at The Masters.

Shane Lowry has also failed to feature in two appearances since finishing T-16th at Augusta, finishing well down the field at RBC Heritage and missing the cut at the Wells Fargo. The Offaly man is now 66/1 to add to his Open Championship victory in 2019 despite having been a 33/1 shot following his solid performance at The Masters.

Waterford’s Seamus Power however has been clipped into 150/1 from 175/1 for a major breakthrough after he hit four rounds in the 60s at the AT&T Byron Nelson Championship in Texas last week. His final round of 64 on Sunday saw him post his second consecutive top-20 finish on the PGA Tour after he finished T-18th at the Wells Fargo a week previous.

Padraig Harrington has also been backed down to 20/1 from 25/1 to finish in the top ten at the PGA Championship after he finished T-5th in his bid for a second Senior’s major title last week.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry don’t have much recent form to go on, but some positive signs of late for Seamus Power has caught the eye of each-way punters and Padraig Harrington’s Seniors form hasn’t gone unnoticed either.”
