The Open Championship Betting Favourites

Rory McIlroy – Open Championship Favourite 15/2

The World Number 3 is the favourite for the 2023 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool Golf Course, a competition he won back in 2014 when it was also held at Royal Liverpool Golf Course which could be a good omen for his chances next weekend by extension improving on his third-place finish from last year

From the Northern Irishman’s 13 starts in 2023, he has one win, and two runners-up finishes. His last two results were a second-place finish in the US Open and a T7 finish at the Travelers Championship

Rory is 15/2  to land the Open Championship for the second time.

Scottie Scheffler

The World Number 1 and 2022 Masters Champion is the second favourite for this year’s tournament at odds of 9/1. The 2022 PGA Tour Player of the Year has continued his strong vein of form into the 2023 season. From his first 18 starts, he has placed 17 times in the top 25, 14 times in the top 10,  4 third-place finishes,1 runner-up and 2 wins.

Scheffler’s most recent victory came in the acclaimed  “fifth major” the Players Championship. In his last two appearances on course, he finished third at the US Open and T4 at the Travelers Championship.

Jon Rahm

The World Number 2 is the third favourite in the market for the 2023 Open Championship at odds of 12/1. The Spaniard will be looking to add to his 2023 Masters victory earlier in the year, although his performances in majors have been mixed since; finishing T50 at the PGA Championship and T10 at the US Open.

Rahm’s best finish at the event was a T3 finish in 2021 which is his only Top-10 appearance at the event from six starts.

Jon Rahm has been in strong form in 2023, with four wins, 1 runners-up finish, 9 Top-10 finishes, 11 Top-25 finishes and 14/16 Cuts made.

For a full preview of Rahm’s chances at becoming Spain’s first Open Champion since Seve Ballesteros check out our Jon Rahm The Open odds post.

Cameron Smith

World Number (7) and LIV Golf Rebel Cameron Smith had his second LIV Golf League victory on the first weekend of July at LIV Golf London which could mean he is coming into form at the perfect time in advance of the Open Championship next season. Smith has been progressing with every major this season coming T34 at the Masters, T9 at the PGA Championship and a fourth finish at the US Open.

Smith has one previous Major victory coming in the 2022 Open Championship making him the defending champion of the event. If Smith retains this event he would add further fuel to the LIV Golf debate and would certainly rattle a few cages again.

Smith is 18/1 to land the Open Championship for the second time.

Brooks Koepka

World Number (12) Koepka is coming into this tournament on the back of two victories in 2023 the first coming at  LIV Golf Orlando where he had a score of -15 under to win the competition. His second victory came at the 2023 PGA Championship where his score of -9 under par was enough to beat off the challenge of Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler by two shots in second place

Koepka is a five-time major winner winning the PGA Championship in 2018, 2019 and 2023 along with the U.S. Open in 2017 and 2018. If Koepka was to win this event, he would become a six-time major winner meaning he’d go joint twelfth for most major titles in the golfing history books.

Koepka is 20/1 to land the Open Championship for the first time.

Others Contenders

Elsewhere World Number (5) Viktor Hovland is priced at 20/1 to land his first Major title, Jordan Spieth is also 20/1 to return to major winning ways while Rickie Fowler is 22/1 to finally land his first major after a recent return to form.

Best Bet: Brooks Koepka @ 20/1
